Your physical health and safety is critical to successful cross-cultural adjustment and overseas living. Preparing your body for its great adventure requires, for example, having a complete physical examination, receiving immunizations, and targeting conditions that require treatment and ongoing self care. Being empowered to adopt positive health habits and practices will promote your overseas endurance and effectiveness.
IHM physicians are general practitioners with a specialization in travel medicine who have many combined years of living and working overseas, and are assisted by a multicultural team of nurses. Together, they are able to contribute to your peace of mind by adequately addressing your health concerns about foreign living.
PSYCHO-EDUCATIONAL CARE
Initial health screening might have identified target conditions that require treatment. At times of wellness expatriates benefit from being taught how to strengthen aspects of their cognitive, emotional and social being in preparation for the demands of overseas living. More time might be required for this process than is available in the personal assessment appointment.
IHM's Department of Counseling and Consulting addresses the psychosocial needs of expatriates, their spouses and families in psychotherapeutic and educational ways.
SPIRITUAL/PHILOSOPHICAL CARE
Many expatriates are empowered to go overseas for religious reasons. Issues of calling, giftedness, and how their faith practices can promote overseas endurance and effectiveness are part of their understanding of health. For other expatriates, the ambiguity and angst of anticipating a foreign destination can move their soul to higher destinations of seeking forgiveness, reconciliation and meaning prior to their departure.
Attending to such experiences in healthy ways can be empowered by the services of an IHM Spiritual Director - a practitioner of soul care who has a deep reverence for the upward, inward and outward journeys of your life.
