1. In the event of a health condition developing at home or overseas, its accessible, accurate and adequate information gives health care providers a "head start" from a health management perspective.
2. It will help determine if your health conditions are new and related to the overseas assignment, or "old" and related to a pre-existing concern.
3. You will be better prepared for your appointment with your health-care provider, and empowered to take ongoing responsibility for your own health and well-being.
Go to Members and register/request this service. Follow the instructions and complete both the PKCTM Health History and Symptom Screening and the PKCTM Mental and Social Health History and Current State questionnaires (www.pkc.com).
An IHM physician will review your screening results and then write a report detailing any recommendations for a follow-up with your local health-care provider. The report will also indicate the level of health risk that might be related to you pursuing your overseas assignment in your proposed destination. Your risk level will be appraised according to pertinent factors of your: (1) past health history, (2) present health profile, (3) overseas destination, (4) overseas role, and (5) the overseas posting hardship level as determined by Canada's Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT). One of five risk levels will be indicated:
1. No Risk
2. Minimal Risk
3. Moderate Risk
4. Insufficient Information to accurately determine level of risk
5. Major Risk
Depending on the nature and level of health risk, a follow-up appraisal might also be recommended.
